Terms of Service

Last updated: July 8, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Pagedge desktop application, the Pagedge website, and any related backend services (together, the "Service"), operated by Pagedge ("we," "us"). By creating an account, downloading the app, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

Pagedge is a PDF reading and knowledge-management application. It lets you import PDFs, highlight and annotate them, take notes, generate flashcards, chat with your documents using AI, and search across your library. Core reading, highlighting, and note-taking features are available on a Free plan; a paid Pro plan removes AI usage limits and unlocks additional features, as described on our pricing page.

3. Accounts

  • You must provide a valid email address and confirm it to activate an account.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date.

4. License to Use the App

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, Pagedge grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download, install, and use the Pagedge desktop application for your own personal or internal professional use. You may not:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application, except where applicable law expressly permits it.
  • Redistribute, resell, sublicense, rent, or lease the application to any third party.
  • Use the Service to build a competing product.
  • Circumvent or attempt to circumvent any usage limits, license checks, or access controls.

This license is the complete license granted to you for the application and supersedes any separate end-user license agreement.

5. Your Content

"Your Content" means the PDFs you import and the highlights, notes, flashcards, drawings, and other annotations you create. You retain all ownership rights in Your Content. By default, Your Content is stored locally on your device and Pagedge does not access it. Where you use a feature that transmits Your Content to our servers — for example, an AI feature, or a future cloud-sync feature — you grant Pagedge a limited license to process, store, and transmit that content solely as necessary to provide the requested feature. You represent that you have the necessary rights to any PDFs and content you import into the Service, and that doing so doesn't violate any third party's copyright or other rights.

6. AI Features

Pagedge's built-in AI features (chat, summarization, explanation, tag suggestions, flashcard generation) are powered by a third-party large language model (currently Google's Gemini API), accessed through our backend by default. Free accounts are limited to 15 AI calls per month and a 5,000-character context limit per request; Pro accounts have unlimited calls and no context limit. You may alternatively configure your own AI provider in Settings, in which case your requests are sent directly to that provider and are not subject to our usage limits or our backend's processing — you are responsible for any costs or terms associated with your own provider.

AI output may be inaccurate. Summaries, explanations, flashcards, and chat responses are generated automatically and may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. Pagedge is a reading and study tool, not a source of professional, legal, medical, financial, or other expert advice, even if you use it to read professional or technical material. You are solely responsible for verifying any AI-generated content before relying on it.

7. Subscriptions and Billing

  • Pro plan. The Pro subscription is billed monthly (or as otherwise stated at checkout) through our payment processor, Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us (via Stripe) to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.
  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date.
  • Cancellation. You can cancel anytime from the in-app "Manage subscription" link, which opens Stripe's billing portal. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Pro access through the end of the period you already paid for.
  • Refunds. Payments are generally non-refundable, including for partial billing periods, except where required by applicable law or at our discretion on a case-by-case basis. Contact us if you believe you were charged in error.
  • Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe may retry the charge; if payment continues to fail, your account may be downgraded to the Free plan.
  • Price changes. We may change subscription pricing going forward; we will provide reasonable notice before any change takes effect for existing subscribers.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to import, store, or process content you don't have the right to possess.
  • Attempt to abuse, overload, or bypass AI usage limits, rate limits, or quota enforcement.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other users' accounts or content, or our infrastructure.
  • Use the Service to generate content that is illegal, infringing, or harmful to others.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.

9. Intellectual Property

The Pagedge name, logo, and application (excluding Your Content and third-party components) are owned by Pagedge and protected by intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of the Service to you. Annotated PDFs you export from Pagedge are standard PDF files that you own and may use, share, or store however you like, independent of Pagedge.

10. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on third-party providers, including Supabase (authentication/database), Stripe (payments), Google (Gemini AI API), and Resend (email delivery). Your use of features backed by these providers is also subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.

11. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated output will be accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose, including professional, legal, medical, or academic reliance.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Pagedge and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms or the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

13. Termination

You may stop using the Service and request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms, engage in abusive behavior, or if required by law. Local content stored on your device is unaffected by account termination and remains yours.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in-app or by email. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
