1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains what information Pagedge ("Pagedge," "we," "us") collects when you use the Pagedge desktop app, the Pagedge website, and related services (together, the "Service"), how we use it, and who we share it with. Pagedge is built around a simple principle: your reading, your highlights, and your notes belong to you. Most of your content never leaves your computer.
2. Information We Collect
Account information
- Email address — used to create and identify your account.
- Password — handled entirely by Supabase Auth, our authentication provider. Pagedge never sees or stores your plaintext password; Supabase stores only a salted hash.
- Account tier and usage counters — whether you're on the Free or Pro plan, and how many AI calls you've used this month, so we can enforce plan limits.
Your reading content (PDFs, highlights, notes, flashcards)
By default, the PDFs you import, the highlights and notes you create, your flashcards, and your reading progress are stored locally on your device in a SQLite database — not on our servers. We do not see this content unless you send it to an AI feature or use a feature that explicitly syncs data to our servers (for example, a future cloud-sync feature for Pro subscribers). If cloud sync is enabled for your account, the synced content is transmitted to and stored on our servers so it can be restored on another device.
Content you send to AI features
When you use "Chat with PDF," summarize, explain, tag-suggestion, or flashcard-generation features with the default built-in AI, the relevant text (your question, the selected passage, or the highlighted content) is sent from the desktop app to our backend, which forwards it to Google's Gemini API to generate a response. See Section 4 for details on how this is handled.
Billing information
If you subscribe to Pagedge Pro, your payment details (card number, billing address, etc.) are collected and processed directly by Stripe, our payment processor. Pagedge never receives or stores your raw card details. We store only your Stripe customer ID, subscription ID, and subscription status, so we can confirm your Pro access.
Waitlist and feedback
- If you join the Mac waitlist on our website, we store the email address you submit so we can notify you when macOS support ships.
- If you submit in-app feedback, the message you write (and any optional context you attach) is emailed to our development team.
Technical and log data
Our backend, like most web services, generates standard server logs (IP address, request timestamp, endpoint called, response status) for security, debugging, and abuse prevention. These logs are retained only as long as needed for those purposes.
3. How We Use Information
- To create and maintain your account and authenticate you.
- To provide the Service — including enforcing Free/Pro plan limits, processing AI requests, and (if enabled) syncing your content across devices.
- To process subscription payments and manage billing, via Stripe.
- To respond to feedback and support requests.
- To notify waitlist subscribers about product availability.
- To detect, investigate, and prevent abuse, fraud, or security incidents.
We do not use your reading content, highlights, or notes to train AI models, and we do not sell your personal information.
4. AI Processing and Third Parties
Pagedge's default AI features are powered by Google's Gemini API, called from our backend (your desktop app never contacts Google directly in this mode). Text you submit to an AI feature is transmitted to our server, then forwarded to Gemini to generate a response, and the response is returned to you. This content is subject to Google's own API terms and privacy practices for the Gemini API, which govern how Google itself handles data sent through its service; we encourage you to review Google's terms if you have concerns about sending sensitive material through AI features.
Free accounts are limited to 15 AI calls per month and a 5,000-character context limit per request; Pro accounts have unlimited calls and no context cap.
Using your own AI provider: Pagedge lets you optionally connect your own AI provider (for example, a local Ollama instance, or your own OpenAI/Anthropic/Groq/OpenRouter API key) in Settings. When this option is enabled, your requests go directly from the desktop app to that provider's endpoint and completely bypass Pagedge's backend — we do not see, log, or process that content at all. You are responsible for reviewing the privacy practices of any third-party AI provider you choose to connect.
5. Who We Share Data With
We share information only with the service providers necessary to run Pagedge, and never sell it:
- Supabase — authentication and account database hosting.
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription billing.
- Google (Gemini API) — processes AI request content when you use the default AI features, as described above.
- Resend — delivers the waitlist confirmation email and forwards in-app feedback to our team.
- Vercel — hosts our backend API and marketing website.
We do not use third-party advertising trackers, and we do not share your data with data brokers.
6. Data Retention
Account information is retained for as long as your account exists. Content stored locally on your device is retained until you delete it or uninstall the app — that's entirely under your control. Server-side data (account record, billing IDs, usage counters, any synced content) is retained until you delete your account, at which point we delete or anonymize it within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain billing records for legal or tax purposes.
7. Data Security
We rely on established providers (Supabase, Stripe, Vercel) that maintain their own security programs, and we use bearer-token authentication over HTTPS for all API traffic. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Rights and Choices
- You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account data by contacting us (see Section 11).
- You can delete your locally stored PDFs, highlights, and notes at any time directly within the app.
- You can disable the default AI proxy and use your own AI provider instead, so no content passes through our servers.
- You can unsubscribe from the Mac waitlist email at any time.
- Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA (e.g., data portability, the right to object to processing). Contact us to exercise these rights.
9. Cookies
The Pagedge marketing website does not use analytics or advertising cookies. It loads Google Fonts (Fraunces and Inter) from Google's font servers, which may receive your IP address as part of that request. The desktop app does not use cookies; it uses local application storage on your device.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in-app or by email.
